In the world of vehicle-based expedition travel, few names command as much respect as XOverland. For over a decade, they've pushed the boundaries of exploration, creating award-winning content that inspires millions to embrace adventure. Now, they've embarked on their most ambitious project to date. Milestones is a 25,000-mile expedition traversing three continents from the Arctic Circle to the southern tip of Africa.

The scale of this undertaking is staggering. This groundbreaking journey spans North America, Europe, and Africa. Connecting every mile from northern extremes to Cape Town in what represents the culmination of years of planning and preparation. For the overlanding community and industry partners like us, this expedition represents a masterclass in planning, preparation and execution.

From Humble Beginnings to Global Expeditions

Founded in 2010 by Clay and Rachelle Croft, XOverland began with a simple mindset: ordinary people doing extraordinary things. What started as explorations of North America has evolved into a global production company that has journeyed through the jungles of Central America, traveled to Patagonia via South America, explored the Australian Outback, crossed the Nordic region and Iceland, traversed the Baja Peninsula, and scouted the last frontier of Alaska .

The company's mission has remained consistent throughout. Make an impact through authentic, original content, backed by integrity and service to the overlanding and outdoor communities. This commitment to authenticity has cultivated a dedicated global following and established XOverland as a leading voice in the overland space.

In recent years, XOverland's influence has expanded significantly. The Overland Collective is a strategic collaboration that brought together XOverland, Overland Journal and Expedition Portal under one unified banner. This collective now represents the world's largest overland community, serving vehicle-based travelers through diverse platforms including video productions, print and digital magazines, websites, forums, podcasts, and the XOVERLAND Ranch venue in Montana.

Purpose-Built Expedition Vehicles

At the heart of the Milestones Expedition is a fleet of meticulously prepared Toyota vehicles, each serving a specific role in this complex undertaking.

2025 Toyota Tundra "Roman"

Configured as the production powerhouse, this Tundra carries essential production equipment, cameras, kitchen/galley systems and additional sleep space. As the largest vehicle in the convoy, it serves as a mobile command center and production studio. It's fitted with a ModCAP Family Camper, Shadow Awning and ModCAP Accessories.

Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter "Legion"

Outfitted for production support, data management, and Starlink connectivity, this Tacoma carries critical camera gear, refrigeration, solar systems and sleeping setups. A perfect example of form meeting function in expedition travel. It's fitted with a ModCAP Family Camper, Shadow Awning and ModCAP Accessories.

Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter "Spartan"

This vehicle's primary role is towing the boat and gear trailer while also serving as a sleeping system for Clay Croft. Its build includes key components that demonstrate the careful planning behind the expedition. It's fitted with a ModCAP Canopy Camper and ModCAP Accessories.

What's particularly noteworthy about these vehicles is how they've been customized not just for travel, but for mobile production. The rigs carry the sophisticated equipment necessary to document this epic journey while providing comfortable living quarters for extended periods in remote regions .

Connecting Continents

The Milestones Expedition represents a new benchmark in global overlanding, connecting three diverse continents in a single continuous journey.

Phase 1: North America to the Arctic Circle

The expedition launched where XOverland began, in North America. This leg saw the team traveling through familiar yet challenging terrain, serving as both a shakedown for their equipment and a symbolic starting point for their most ambitious journey yet.

Phase 2: European Exploration

After crossing the Atlantic, the team continued through Europe's varied landscapes, building toward the expedition's pivotal third phase. These initial segments tested the vehicles and team dynamics in diverse conditions, preparing them for the ultimate challenge ahead.

Phase 3: The African Continent

Currently underway, this final phase represents the expedition's crown jewel. The team picked up their vehicles in Germany before driving south through Morocco and down Africa's West Coast toward Cape Town. This leg presents unparalleled challenges. From the Sahara's harsh deserts to Central Africa's jungles and everything in between. It will test every aspect of the team's preparation, equipment and resolve.

What makes the Milestones Expedition particularly compelling is its continuous nature. This isn't a series of disconnected trips. It's one continuous journey connecting every mile from the Arctic to Africa.

More Than Miles

The Milestones Expedition is being documented for a 10-part episodic series slated for release in early 2026. This isn't another travelogue. It's a professional production filmed by adventurers and professional cinematographers who excel at telling compelling stories through documentary-style episodes.

The production approach is professional, helpful and family-friendly. Hallmarks of the XOverland brand that have earned them a diverse, global audience. The series will showcase the world's most stunning landscapes, challenging terrain and the human element. The struggles, triumphs and personal transformations that occur when pushing boundaries over 25,000 miles.

"This expedition is more than just miles on a map - it's about the people, the friendships, and the challenges that shape us along the way," says Clay Croft. "We want to explore not just the limits of our vehicles, but the limits of ourselves as individuals and as a team."

The Driving Force

The Milestones Expedition benefits from the steady leadership of XOverland's founders. Clay Croft serves as Chief Creative Officer for the Overland Collective, bringing his creative vision and expedition acumen to the project. Meanwhile, Rachelle Croft serves as CEO, providing the business leadership that makes expeditions of this scale possible .

Rachelle's leadership extends beyond the boardroom. She's an accomplished overlander in her own right, having clinched first place overall in the 2019 Rebelle Rally with driving partner Taylor Pawley. The couple also works closely with their three sons (Cyrus, Ryder, and Eli), cultivating a spirit of family adventure and a love of the outdoors that permeates their brand.

A New Milestone in Overlanding

The Milestones Expedition represents the evolution of overlanding from niche hobby to professional-grade expeditionary travel. It demonstrates what's possible when meticulous planning, proven equipment and human determination converge. For the team at XOverland, it's the culmination of 10 years of building, learning and exploring. Ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

As they navigate the final leg toward Cape Town, the overlanding community watches with anticipation, knowing that the lessons learned, stories gathered and boundaries pushed will ultimately be shared to inspire others to embark on their own adventures. Whether that's a weekend camping trip or a global expedition.

For us, having our gear proven on these expeditions provides real-world validation that can't be replicated in laboratory testing. The Milestones Expedition serves as the ultimate testing ground, demonstrating reliability in the world's most challenging environments.

The 10-part series documenting the Milestones Expedition will launch in early 2026 on the XOverland Network and YouTube. To follow their progress and learn more about the expedition, visit www.xoverland.com.
