The Big Thing is Where The Overlanding Community Connects
2 Min read

At the core of overlanding is connection. The shared passion for adventure, the desire to learn new things and the friendships forged along the trail. That spirit came alive at The Big Thing, hosted at the XOverland Ranch in Montana, where hundreds of overlanding enthusiasts gathered for three days of skill-building, storytelling and unforgettable experiences.

A Gathering of Like-Minded Adventurers

From the moment the gates opened, the ranch buzzed with energy. Strangers became friends and first-timers left feeling like part of the family. The trails were packed with rigs of all kinds, and we loved spotting so many Alu-Cab-equipped vehicles out on the course. The 4×4 trials were a highlight, with drivers pushing their limits (and their rigs) while cheering each other on. Laughter, high-fives and the occasional recovery challenge made every run an adventure.

A huge thank you to Clay and Rachelle Croft for opening their ranch and creating a space where the overlanding community could thrive. Their hospitality set the tone for an incredible weekend.

Learning, Sharing, and Growing Together

The Big Thing was about building confidence and community with hands-on workshops, from winching to welding, that gave attendees real-world skills. The fireside stories reminded everyone why we love this lifestyle.

Alu-Cab USA was on-site, connecting with fellow overlanders and sharing insights on adventure-ready setups. And next year? You’d best believe that the rest of the Alu-Cab team will be there. Perhaps a braai workshop to bring a taste of South African tradition to Montana?

The Real Magic: The People

The best moments happened organically. A first-time off-roader conquering a tough line with a cheering crowd. A family bonding over their first overlanding experience. Late-night campfire debates about their dream routes. These are the connections that last long after the event ends.

As rigs rolled out on Sunday, the question wasn’t “When’s the next event?” but “How do we keep this community spirit going?” Because The Big Thing is a reminder that overlanding is better together.

See you next year – with more trails, more stories and even more Alu-Cab in the lineup!
