A Little Something on the Side: Maxtrax Table

A Little Something on the Side: Maxtrax Table
2 Min read

Overlanding is all about simplicity and efficiency. Your gear should work for you, not against you. That’s why we designed the Maxtrax Side Table, a game-changing solution that replaces bulky, time-consuming camp tables with something sleek, sturdy and fast to deploy.

No more wrestling with clunky setups. This table drops down in seconds, giving you instant access to your side door while doubling as a reliable work surface when you need it most. But it doesn’t stop there. The smart design also serves as a secure mount for your Maxtrax recovery boards, freeing up roof space and eliminating the need for a separate storage solution.

Curious about how it all came together? We sat down with engineering technical lead, Ishmael Ariefdien, to dive into the design process behind this versatile two-in-one solution.

Design Challenges

This “simple” table was actually quite tricky to design because we had to consider vehicle variability. It needed to accommodate different body lines, shapes, heights and angles across numerous vehicles. We also considered that it would often be used when parked on uneven terrain, which is why we settled on the adjustability of the table for use on non-level ground. There were also access requirements and maintaining camper accessibility while deployed.

Innovation vs Traditional Tables

Improving on other table designs, this product can be instantly deployed with far less setup or packing time. Just unfold and use. The integrated storage eliminates carrying Maxtrax on the roof-top or the separate packing of a table. Although you can always use more surface space when overlanding. The multi-purpose design easily transitions from work surface to recovery gear mount, optimising space. Plus, it maintains full canopy functionality while deployed with the side doors still able to be accessed.

It Sells Itself

To best showcase the Maxtrax Table’s versatility, you simply need to show it in real camping scenarios. Demonstrate using it as a “bar area” while prepping food or drinks outside the vehicle. Then show the dual functionality showing the Maxtrax mounting and quick deployment in recovery situations.

Key Takeaways

  • Solves two problems by providing a work surface and securing up to four Maxtrax
  • Adapts to various recovery boards
  • Streamlines camp workflows by reducing setup and teardown time
